Many groups for various reasons choose to celebrate alternatives to Columbus Day including Indigenous Peoples Day, while Columbus day is still celebrated in San Francisco where the 2nd oldest celebration is held dating back to 1869

true meaning of "break a leg" is the wish for many curtain calls. When you bow or curtsy, you are supposed to put one foot behind the other and bend at the knee, "breaking" the leg.
