For strictly photo printing, I would go with a dye-sublimation printer over an inkjet. You'll find them at photography-oriented stores like Vistek. Between $100 and $200. Read more in wikipedia: http://is.gd/dk5J

Inkjets are cheap, but the ink is very expensive. color laser printers are more expensive, but the toner is cheaper than an inkjet. "network" printers can connect directly to a computer, either with a printer port, or a network cable.

If you're planning on printing a lot, go with a laser printer. Inkjets are S-L-O-W, and they smear more, especially with photo paper.

The air is dryer, which helps static electricity gather easier. I poke metal when I get up to remove static.
